Robust, inquisitive research and support

At Research Scotland, we provide high quality, practical social research and support to public and third sector organisations.

Current research projects

We have been commissioned by sportscotland to evaluate the work it supports in the schools and education, and clubs and communities environments. This is a large scale research project, and involves gathering views from a wide range of people.  For more information about this important research and links to online surveys follow this link.

Over the past few months we have been gathering the views and experiences of those involved in the design and delivery of ESOL for resettled refugees. The project was commissioned by COSLA, and has led to the development of a practice guide.

Our work involves...
Social research
Inquisitive, practical research
We are social researchers.  We use robust methods to answer questions that shape policy, improve practice and achieve positive outcomes. We can research issues at national or local level - both interest us just as much. We are passionate, robust and ethical - and are all members of the Social Research Association.

Analysis and writing
Complex ideas presented clearly
We know how hard it can be to create strong reports, funding applications and other documents when you need to focus on day to day project delivery. We bring expert skills in analysing complex information and presenting it in a simple way.  We can provide advice and editing support on applications or reports you have prepared to ensure they are outcome focused and easy to ready for your target audience.  And we always write in plain English.
Telling your story of change
We specialise in impact focused evaluation. We provide support to design robust, practical self evaluation frameworks.  We use a range of research methods to explore the outcomes or change your project, programme or approach has brought about for individuals, communities, and organisations. We have the skills to explore what it is about your approach that works well, and how it could be strengthened.

Supporting improvement

We want to support leaders, teams and partnerships in Scotland to be the best that they can be. Tara McGregor is a qualified coach and mentor who provides tailored coaching packages for leaders and teams from the third and public sectors.  Tara and Katy are also highly skilled facilitators. We specialise in designing events and sessions which support reflection, innovative thinking, and action planning.
Supporting innovation and action
We bring decades of experience of delivering research, support and training to the third and public sectors in Scotland. We have designed and facilitated a wide range of sessions and events – from national stakeholder events for Government, to small community cafes.

Tara and Katy are highly skilled facilitators. We create spaces and events which encourage everyone to get involved, challenge thinking, and develop concrete actions and results. We specialise in working with partnerships and teams facing difficult challenges, where joint working and focus is needed.
